Assassin’s Creed : Revelations – PC version delayed till December

Posted on 30 September 2011 by komplettie

Looks like Ubisoft doesn’t want to alter its long standing routine of delaying PC versions of popular titles even as the developer revealed recently that the PC edition of Assassin’s Creed Revelations will be released on December 2, as opposed to earlier date of November 15. The console versions – PS3 and Xbox 360, would however be launched on the latter date.

Eurogamer has apparently unearthed a post on the Czech Ubisoft Facebook page which talks about the delay. No definite reason has been disclosed by the developer as of yet but fingers are being pointed towards its anti piracy policy. Its DRM scheme has already been receiving quite some flak ever since From Dust was launched through Steam. It seems that a number of unhappy buyers who were forced to keep a constant internet connection so as to play the game were offered refunds by Valve.

From Dust is another such game whose PC version was delayed by Ubisoft at the last moment. Next in line was Driver: San Francisco which was released almost a month after the console versions. Furthermore, the launch of the PC edition of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood took place in March 2011 following a November 2010 console release.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is one of this year’s biggest titles and it is supposedly the final game in the series to be set in the Renaissance era. All three protagonists form the previous titles – Altair, Ezio and Desmond will be featured in this game. A multiplayer beta of Assassin’s Creed Revelations was concluded recently and is said to have received wide amount of response from gamers.

The delay in the PC launch of Assassin’s Creed Revelations spells disappointment to those non-console gamers who have been put through the same rigmarole by Ubisoft during past releases too.

Samsung drops prices for Google Chromebooks

Posted on 07 September 2011 by komplettie

Chromebooks went for sale in June and in this short period of time, Samsung has already dropped the price of their Google Chrome OS laptops by as much as 10%.

The Wi-Fi only Series 5 Chromebook is now selling for $399.99, down from $429.99, while the 3G + Wi-Fi Chromebook is available for $449.99, down 10% from the original $499.99. The prices for Acer Chromebooks are however unchanged.

While a price drop is always welcome, why would anyone prefer a stripped-down Chrome OS based laptop over these netbooks that are much more versatile?

All you need to know about Solid State Drives (SSD)

Posted on 12 May 2011 by komplettie

A Solid State Drive (SSD) is a data storage device that uses solid state memory to store data, like a traditional Hard Disk Drive (HDD) does. Although the purpose is the same, the way the SSD does it differs from the HDD. HDD’s are electromechanical storage devices while SSD’s are electronic devices. Practically speaking, HDD’s contain spinning disks and movable read/write heads that have to get to the correct position on the disk to read or write the data. As for SSD’s, they use microchips which retain data in non-volatile memory chips (like RAM), meaning there are no moving parts.

You’re probably thinking:  great, but why use SSDs? Well, compared to electromechanical HDDs, they have 2 big advantages:
