Adidas Targets Nike+ With Free MiCoach App

I’m sure a few of you have fallen under the Nike+ spell over the last year, measuring out your workouts as you go, publishing results on Facebook and elsewhere in an attempt to impress your friends (come on, you know that’s what you’re doing when you put those numbers up). Well, Nike’s traditional rival Adidas is getting in on the act by announcing that its MiCoach system will now be available as a free app for iPhone and BlackBerry users.

As with the Nike version, MiCoach uses GPS to allow joggers to track their progress in real time when out and about doing anything even vaguely sporty. There’s also voice coaching too to help keep you going (I wonder if they could put on an option to use the voice of the Drill Sergeant from ‘Full Metal Jacket’, that’d get anybody’s legs moving) . Smartphones Killing Off GPS Devices?

It’s been on the cards for a while, but now the figures are starting to stack up for those who argue that the smartphone will kill off satnavs sooner rather than later.

GPS market leader, Garmin has seen it’s stock price fall by nearly 50% over the past two years, going from $51 to $29, with the that figure expected to drop once more –towards $26 – in the next few weeks. At Last… the Billy Connolly TomTom

Billy Connolly has joined the likes of Snoop Dogg, John Cleese and Sven Goran Eriksson by lending his voice to a sat-nav range.

In fairness, it's a better career move than The Boondock Saints.

Yep, TomTom has announced it has teamed up with Connolly to bring the Big Yin’s voice to its GPS devices. Connolly will not only hand out directions but also include zingers such as, “Turn around when possible. It is advisable to turn your entire car around. Do not just turn around inside the car”, in his repotoire.
