Asus Eee Tablet Details Surface

Posted on 13 August 2010 by jjkomplett

It’s been whole, oh three or four days, since Asus was talking up the latest edition to their Eee range of products so you knew something must be around the corner. Sure enough, today sees confirmation that the long awaited Asus Eee Tablet, with an 8-inch LCD touch-screen, is being released to the public from this October.

Initially it’ll only be US customers who get their hands on it, for around $300 (€235). Prices will of course vary by market but hopefully we’ll get confirmation of the (inevitable) Irish mark-up and release date soon enough. Continue Reading

Asus Launches EEE Tablet

Posted on 01 June 2010 by Komplettie

Asus has demonstrated its new EEE tablet at Computex, showing off a device that takes input from a stylus, something that’s increasingly rare in the tablet market.

The new device is a far cry from some of the concept images...

For the moment, there’s relatively little information about the whole affair, but what we do know is very interesting indeed. According to the folks at TrustedReviews, the EEE tablet has a touch resolution 2450 DPI display and should give users the ability to take notes on top of anything they happen to be reading. Of course, the big let-down for many will be the fact that the device boasts an E-ink display, rather than a full-colour affair, making it something of a cross between an ebook reader and a full-on tablet.

New Asus Netbooks Boast 14 Hour Battery

Posted on 01 March 2010 by komplettie

It seems that Asus is upping the ante in the netbook market with news of its upcoming refresh to the EEE netbook line, most notably the fact that it boasts some very impressive battery life indeed.

Asus EEE line is very much one of the netbook grandaddies ;)

Word comes from TomsHardware of the new EEE PC line, which will see some fairly interesting additions to Asus’ netbook offerings. Apparently, we can expect to see Asus unveil the upcoming devices officially at the upcoming CeBit 2010 in Germany. So far, we don’t know an awful lot about the devices other than the fact that they’ll boast the usual 10-inch display and, rumour has it, the latest addition to Intel’s Atom line, codenamed Pine Trail.

Asus Building Tegra Powered EEE Tablet

Posted on 23 December 2009 by komplettie

Word is coming out that Asus is building a tablet version of its EEE PC, dubbed the EEE Pad. The big news not though, is that the device will be running Nvidia’s Tegra mobile GPU arrangement.

Word comes via NetbookNews that Asus is hoping to launch the device after March of 2010, which has already been pointed out as implying that the company that effectively started the whole netbook crazy is waiting for the second generation of Nvidia’s Tegra chips. If nothing else, we’ll be curious to see what the device can do, but it certainly means a big shift, both for Asus for the netbook market.

Asus Moves to EEE Desktop

Posted on 27 November 2009 by komplettie

Asus is moving its EEE brand up in the world with news that its to offer an EEE desktop, specifically designed to offer a solid media PC on a low budget, and it’s surprisingly impressive.

TheRegister is carrying word of the new EEE machine, dubbed the EEE Box 1501, which boasts an optical drive, as you might reasonably expect from a media-centric machine, a dedicated graphics chipset, and comes with Windows 7 installed. Still, there are those features that seem to indicate it might owe just a little too much to its netbook roots to let it be of too much interest to those looking for a little more performance.

Special Offers ? Week of November 16th

Posted on 16 November 2009 by komplettie

Good afternoon all, I hope you’re all well. For those who had asked over the weekend and during the day, I’m very much recovered since last week, thanks for your concern :) Anyway, for those who aren’t used to how the Monday afternoon blog post, we tend to post the special offers we have at the start of the week. It gives everyone the maximum possible time to consider picking something up while it’s reduced.

This week we have special offers on a netbook, a graphics card and a home NAS setup.

Asus EEE PC 1000HD:

Asus is fairly widely credited with having been one of the manufacturers that really got behind netbooks in a big way before they were fashionable. That means that Asus has been in the netbook game a lot longer than most other manufacturers, and it shows over some of the competition.

Asus

The EEE PC 1000HD has long been one of the standards by which other netbooks are measured. It boasts a solid 10.1″ case, a 900MHz Intel Celeron M processor, 1GB of RAM, a 1.3 Megapixel webcam and a 3-in-1 card reader, for those who absolutely must upload photos on the go.

It’s also got 160GB of hard drive space, which means you won’t be too tight for space if you like watching a bit of video on a machine you can carry around with you without too much trouble.

The Asus EEE PC 1000HD is knocked down by just under 10% this week to €255. As ever with netbooks, it’s ideal for students looking for something nice and light to take notes on without breaking the bank, especially considering the scrapes students tend to get into with hardware ;)

For more details, you can check out our product page for the Asus EEE 1000HD.

I feel like this would be a dreadful time to point out that it’s National Tollerance Day, but in any case, The ASUS EEE 1000HD is also available in white.

Apple Gets Tough on Hackintosh Netbooks

Posted on 03 November 2009 by komplettie

With the popularity of so-called “Hackintosh” setups on normally Windows or Linux-based netbooks on the rise, Apple has taken steps to block netbook users from using the latest build of Snow Leopard.

apple-logo1

According to the folks over at OSX Daily, the latest build of Snow Leopard, the upcoming Mac OS 10.6.2 update, is to see Apple drop support for Intel’s line of Atom processors. This will mean that any users with “hackintoshed” machines built around the processor will effectively be stuck without an upgrade path… and given some of the niggling issues with Snow Leopard, that could prove problematic.

Product Spotlight – Asus EEE PC

Posted on 15 October 2009 by komplettie

Asus’ EEE is basically the granddaddy netbook, it wasn’t the first product with the form factor that would eventually come to be the netbooks we know and love today, but there was a time when buying a netbook effectively meant buying an EEE. As a result, the modern EEE PC is a very well refined piece of kit indeed.

The EEE also managed to hold a feature or two over the competition, depending on what they are. As much as our country manager, Aaron, loves his Samsung NC10, the fact is that the hard lines that give it its distinctive look aren’t for everyone, and the EEE’s sleek curves and glossy body are a gorgeous alternative, without making any sacrifices on the keyboard, which is different but no less pleasant to use. As another point in its favour, there’s enough or a range that there seems basically to be an EEE PC that suits just about everyone’s tastes and budget.

The EEE 1005HA-M boasts a 10-inch display 160GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, a 6-cell battery, and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom n270 processor, meaning that its spec is close enough to identical to other netbooks available (including the NC10). It also weighs 1.4Kg, which is around the same as the competition (though around a hundred grams heavier than some).

The big difference is that the EEE 1005HA-M weighs in a fair whack under their cost at the pleasantly low figure of €285 (versus the NC10’s €329).

New EEE to Outclass Other Netbooks?

Posted on 13 October 2009 by komplettie

Rumours of a dual-core Intel Atom processor have been doing the rounds for a while, but now those rumours have spread to encompass Asus’ EEE PC, which people are saying could be the first netbook to boast a dual-core Atom.

Asus EEE 1000HA

According to Liliputing Asus’ EEE PC 1201N and 1201HA ‘leaked’ specifications include the fact that it boasts fully 3GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive, to say nothing of the fact that it boasts the newly finalised Wireless-n standard. As you might have guessed from the first paragraph though, we’re particularly interested in the news that the EEE 1201N is said to boast a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N330 dual core processor… and it’s Nvidia ION based, like Samsung’s N510.

Komplett.ie Netbook Roundup

Posted on 07 October 2009 by komplettie

Hey there all, in the spirit of getting all of the relevant Back to School stuff together for people looking to buy specific scholarly equipment, this piece was meant to go up last week, when those heading back to college would have found it most useful. Of course, I was sick during last week, but hopefully this will still be of use to some students caught in netbook limbo.

Basically, we hear an awful lot of questions from week to week about what netbook will be the best for someone who wants X or Y, and the fact is that for most users, there’s relatively little in the difference between most netbooks. You’ll find that they, for the most part, boast similar processors (the 1.6GHz Intel Atom), similar amount of RAM and HDD space, but beyond that there are differences, so hopefully we can illuminate anyone looking to pick up a new netbook in this piece.

Samsung NC10:

Samsung’s NC10 has been enduringly popular in a way that very few machines can be. It’s price has remained reasonable for the hardware and the combination of a solid, good-looking build and it being a reliable device.

Samsung's NC10 remains the quintessential netbook :)

Samsung's NC10 remains the quintessential netbook :)

The NC10 fits the stereotypical netbook ideal, with a 10.2” display. It boasts an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM a 160GB hard drive and its own Bluetooth adaptor, which makes it easier to have your various mobile devices chattering to one another without involving a tangle of messy cabling.

For us the NC10 pretty much epitomises what a netbook should be. It’s relatively tough, reliable, boasts solid battery life, a built-in webcam and has won an absolute raft of awards for the combination. It’s not too heavy, weighing in at 1.3KG. Almost as a parting thought, it boasts a 3-in-1 card reader, for those who like to take straight from the camera and upload on the go :)

For those concerned about the keyboard (which will be most of the note-taking student population), it’s worth pointing out that our country manager managed to get a little over 90,000 words out of his NC10 in a month. With that wealth of experience behind him, he informs us that the keyboard is very fine indeed.

The Samsung NC10 is €345 and you can check out more specifications and pictures on our product page for it.

Special Offers and Competitions

Posted on 05 October 2009 by komplettie

Good afternoon everyone, we’re back after a few days of low blog activity (down a man due to illness but we’re all back at full capacity now) and since it’s a Monday we have a Special Offers post to details some of the items we have on offer this week.

For those of you who haven’t already seen it on Twitter or Facebook, we’re also running a competition, but there’ll be a little more on that later. First things first we have some nice hardware on offer this week, including a graphics card, a netbook and a 1TB external drive.

PowerColor Radeon HD 4770 512MB:

It’s always nice to start a Special Offers post with some nice hardware, this week we’ve got the PowerColor Radeon HD 4770 marked down by 15%, which puts it at the €99 mark. It’s ideal for anyone who’s got themselves into the mindset of “under €100 and it just counts as treating myself.”

Click through to see the main page for the Radeon HD 4770 512MB.

As much as I could sit and list specifications until the cows come home, it’s generally a far better idea to link you guys to the product page for components. I should at least say that this is a PCI Express card, as you might expect. It’s also got an output resolution of 2560×1600, as well as both VGA and HDMI outputs, which should be enough for most :)

You can check out the Radeon HD 4770’s detailed product page for more information, including a list of all the relevant bits and pieces.

Moreover, this week you’re in with a chance to win a free game with graphics card purchases, which sweetens the pot that little bit more.
