The other day we brought you news of how a counterfeit version of Intel’s Core i7-920 processor made its way to a customer of US-based online electronics store, Newegg (coming complete with a blank instructional manual and a sticker on the outside of the box which misspelled the word ’socket’ as ’sochet’). Well today, ZDnet reports that the culprits have been found.
Newegg has issued a statement saying that, ”initial information we received from our supplier, IPEX, stated that they had mistakenly shipped us ‘demo units’. We have since come to discover the CPUs were counterfeit and are terminating our relationship with this supplier.”
Trying to counteract the wealth of bad press they got for the whole matter, the statement continues on to say that Newegg’s “top priority” is to reach out to customers who may have been affected to ensure their “absolute satisfaction”.
Added the company missive, “We have already sent out a number of replacement units and are doing everything in our power to resolve the matter promptly and with the least amount of inconvenience to our customers.”
Be wary of online retailers then eh…. Wait, I mean, buy Komplett, we’re safe as houses.
