Bing Grows in February

Posted on 12 March 2010 by komplettie in News

It seems that Microsoft’s Bing is continuing to do very well for itself indeed, with usership of the search engine growing again in February.

Microsoft's search engine has done very well for itself over the last year :)

Microsoft’s rebranded version of what used to be the old MSN Live Search is slowly creeping towards its first birthday, and in that first year it’s managed some fairly impressive feats. Perhaps most fundamentally impressive is the fact that, depending on whose results you pay attention to, Bing has grown almost every month since its launch, gradually turning users away from other search engines until, according to Cnet, it hit the 11.5% mark in February.

Of cours,e that 11.5% refers to the search total for the US, where Bing has been (and indeed, continues to be) fairly heavily marketed, with everything up to and including a new TV ad campaign being rolled out to encourage users to adopt the search engine. Figures for the rest of the world have been few and far between, but tend to show Bing trending significantly below that 11.5% it’s managed in the US.

Still, considering the impressive marketing effort and the fact that it’s effectively a new search engine, Microsoft is doing very well indeed for itself with Bing. Moreover, the fact that Bing is to be the default search service used by Motorola’s Android-based smartphones in China should mean that Bing sees its global userbase grow significantly in the not too distant future.

It seems likely that Microsoft will be pleased with what Bing has managed to do, especially since it looks as though its search engine has been gradually soaking up Yahoo’s users…

Still, the sky is the limit for now, and with Google apparently unwilling to acquiesce in China Bing could do very well for itself there.

Man I am getting a bit sick and tired of people analyzing the .01 percentage rise or fall of Bing in the (US) search market…
I like and mainly (not exclusively) use Bing, but I use the US or UK site because the Irish site is still just rubbish and definitely explains why Bings market share in Ireland is just 2.5% compared to Google with 94.5%.
Bing, it’s time of an Irish site. Thanks.
