Infinity Ward Staff Losses Continue

Infinity Ward is continuing to haemorrhage staff today, with word coming out that another three of the staff that had worked on the record breaking Modern Warfare 2 have decided to leave.

Activision’s decision to fire Infinity Ward’s co-founders, Vince Zampella and Jason West, is likely looking like something of a misstep, with the hit developer now having lost fully seven members of staff, including some who seem to have been fairly integral when it comes to the development of Modern Warfare 2. Word comes from IGN of the news that Infinity Ward has now lost senior animator Bruce Ferriz, programmer Jon Shiring and Modern Warfare 2’s lead designer, Mackey McCandlish.

Of course, things only get worse for Activision when you consider the fact that Zampella and West have made the move of forming a new development studio, and one that’s likely looking very tempting to those staff currently abandoning Infinity Ward. The appropriately named Respawn Entertainment was speedily picked up by erstwhile megapublisher Electronic Arts.

If nothing else, the loss of staff and the potential move to Respawn Entertainment could be good news for those who had been worried that Activision’s close involvement in the Modern Warfare series could have led to fairly negative things. Indeed, one of the rumours swirling around when West and Zampella were first fired was that the ‘insubordination’ Activision referenced as being among the reason the two were fired was precipitated by a push from Activision to introduce a monthly charge for multiplayer with the launch of the next entry to the Modern Warfare series.

Essentially, that would see Xbox users, who constitute the lion’s share of the Modern Warfare community, paying a monthly fee not only for Xbox Live, but also for Modern Warfare… strange stuff.
