Cameron Blasts Watching Movies Over iPhone

Say what you like about James Cameron but the man certainly says what he thinks. The Avatar director is currently doing press for the Blu-ray release of the enormously successful 3D yarn and in the process he has got in a nice dig at people who watch movies via their iPhone, saying that watching any movie in this format is “dumb”

James Cameron and Sam Worthington on the Avatar set.

“I don’t feel that I’m making movies for iPhones,” he explained. “If someone wants to watch it on an iPhone, I’m not going to stop them, especially if they’re paying for it, but I don’t recommend it.”

A TechRadar report continues, “I think it’s dumb, when you have characters that are so small in the frame that they’re not visible.” And it’s not only phones he has problems with, but laptops too.

“To me, there’s a limit that you wouldn’t want to go below,” Cameron noted. “I don’t know. I’ve never watched Avatar on a laptop. I guess it probably works, but I don’t recommend it. What I recommend is getting the coffee table out of the way and sticking your couch about four feet from your TV.”

Cameron and co are hoping that the non-3D release of Avatar will plug a hole until the 3D Blu-ray version hits the shelves this winter.

LoL, someone need to teach that man perspective…

    * Father Ted is demonstrating some plastic toy cows to Dougal. *
Father Ted: …OK, one last time. These are small… but the ones out there are far away. Small… far away… ah forget it!

I couldn’t agree more with Cameron.
I mean seriously who watches a 2 and half hour widescreen movie on their phone or mp3 player?
The experience would be pretty bad on a 13″ laptop screen with laptop speakers but a ~3″ screen with headphones… get lost!

I mean sure if that’s the optimal viewing experience you have available to you then fine. I’m sorry for you, and still think you should have spent ?200 on a decent TV than on an iPod/iPhone!

If your travelling then watching a few half an hour low quality TV shows on your chosen portable device isn’t a bad idea, something I have done myself in fact.
    But this is very different.
    And very wrong.

Cameron’s old school and wants’ the big picture with the surround sound so you take in everything, after all he is a director and they usually have an idea of how they want the viewer to feel when watching the film, I can’t image you feeling anything when watching it on a iphone!

If it was a first viewing, I wouldn’t like it to be on a laptop either, but I don’t mind it myself, an iphone is a little too small tho….
