Final Fantasy XIII Breaks Series Records

Final Fantasy XIII has managed to shift fully 1 million copies in the US alone in its first week on sale, making it the fastest selling Final Fantasy game so far.

If nothing else, it is a very lovely game...

While most of the Final Fantasy series has been exclusive to one console or another, it’s interesting to see how well Final Fantasy XIII has performed, especially given the fact that that it released for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 simultaneously. Indeed, given the fact that so many have said that platform-exclusive games (other than first-party titles) would die out gradually over the course of this and next console generation, it’s very interesting indeed that Final Fantasy XIII has done so well for itself.

Word comes from TGDaily of the record breaking sales, which, entirely apart from the impressive figure of 1 million copies sold in its first day on sale in the US, saw the latest entry to Square Enix’s long running series see 1 million sales in its first day alone in Japan. It’s also worth noting that in Japan there hasn’t been an Xbox 360 version of the game released, though that much is perhaps unsurprising, given that the Xbox 360 never really sold as well as in Europe or the US.

Perhaps more interesting than all that is word coming from SiliconEra that, when asked, if there was any Final Fantasy game he’d like to remake, Final Fantasy XIII’s director, Motomu Toriyama, responded saying,

“That would be Final Fantasy VII!

If we had the manpower and the time to work on a project, if we were to remake Final Fantasy VII with the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would become a tremendous project. If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be one I would really want to remake.”

So, all that’s left to do is try desperately not to get our hopes up. How hard could it be…

Leave FF7 alone, we’ll end up with threads on every forum “Did you hear there’s a FF7 remake” again.
Rented FF13 today, so far so good bar the overly cheesy dialogue and limited character names.

The dialogue is pretty atrocious alright, but I’m enjoying the new play style and high quality visuals :)
