Google Wave may not have caught on at anything like the rate Google had clearly hoped when it first started showing the service off, but it seems as though it’s committed ot keeping the service up to date, adding an extensions tab.

Google Wave, lovely, but let's face it... empty.
Google has announced the rollout of a new tab to be added to the Google Wave “Navigation” bar (on the far left of the Wave window if you’re using the standard layout) that should just give a gallery view of the various extensions you might find useful in Wave itself. This should make playing with extensions in Google Wave easier for those who haven’t quite got the knack of it yet, which is always good news.
Moreover, Google has pointed out that it’s working on fixing some of the issues that certain extensions cause with Wave that might have gotten under people’s skins before now. According to the posting on the official Google Wave blog,
“The gallery is simply a set of waves containing extension installers. The first wave, “Read me first” contains and introduction to extensions and how to use them. In many cases, those particular waves won’t maintain their read/unread status in Google Wave preview; we’re working on this. Beyond that, we have some design improvements in the works, but we wanted to get this out there to get feedback and help users find your extensions.”
It’s nice to see that Google is still dedicated to keeping Wave alive, especially considering the fairly lacklustre response from the world at large to the strange communications platform that, let’s face it, not to many of us are actually using from day to day.
While we don’t doubt that Google Wave will stay where it is for the moment, it’s nice to see that the service will continue to develop.
