Last September’s release of the Asus Eee PC 1001HA saw it initially available in three different versions, with different operating systems. There was the Asus 1001HA XP with (yep you guessed it) Windows XP, the 1001HA LX with Linux, and also as a model with no operating system at all, though thankfully there’s been a recent reboot which has Windows 7 under the hood.

Pretty darn nice on the outside, very impressive on the inside and gosh darn absolutely gorgeous price wise.
And, seeing as how the Asus Eee PC 1001HA Windows 7 is an exclusive to Komplett round these parts – and indeed is available at a pretty darn cheap €285 – we thought we’d give you a rundown on what makes it a good buy in the first place.
Now while marketing speak such as “seemingly crafted by nature itself” might sound a bit hokey, the Asus folk are particularly proud of the Eee PC line and the seashell inspired design on this particular model is mighty purty to our eyes anyway.
With regard to battery life, many may feat that Windows 7 could hamper their charge if installed on a netbook. Fortunately, if we’re to trust the raft of reviews out there, this isn’t the case on Asus models. Indeed, many of you will remember our recent feature on Windows XP versus Windows 7 for netbooks. Indeed, many of you will remember our recent feature on Windows XP versus Windows 7 for netbooks.
We told you how, while many other netbook names struggled to bring out the best of Win7 in their models, tests on the 1001HA’s stablemate, the Asus Eee PC 1005HA, showed how Windows 7 performed “very close” to Windows XP. Quoting a piece on LegitReviews we added, “Windows XP only lasted nine minutes longer than Windows 7 at idle, but both lasted over 10 hours on our Asus Eee PC 1005HA”.
You can expect similarly impressive results on the 1001HA, indeed as the company points out, “With the exclusive ASUS Super Hybrid Engine’s increased power efficiency, the Eee PC can deliver an impressively long battery lifespan – eliminating worries about power while on-the-go and easily keeps users connected for full day, unplugged computing.”
Faster internet access is promised too; with support for 802.11n meaning better wireless standards and anything that improves that when you live in this fine little country is a welcome boost.
Promising “a full range of applications, help enhance your communications and computing experience”, one of our favourite elements is the multi-touch gesture input feature, which will allow you to zoom in and out to view photos or read documents by just moving two fingertips apart or together on the touchpad in that now familiar touch-screen stylee as they say on the street (we’re housed in an industrial estate so the streets are but a mere distant memory).
You can also simultaneously slide two fingertips up or down the touchpad which makes scrolling in a window easy without the use of a mouse.
All in all, for €285 this is a really excellent netbook deal and for a 10-inch machine this is as good as you’ll find in our eyes.
