Media Player Sale Weekend

Posted on 19 February 2010 by komplettie in News

Hey there all, this weekend we’re kicking off a sale on media players that we thought you might be interested in, so we’re throwing up a quick post on the blog about it (but you already know that, you’re reading it).

Anyway, for anyone interested in picking up a media player (or who doesn’t know what a media player does) we thought we’d post something here to explain a bit. Essentially all a media player does is act as an intermediary between a hard drive full of media; music and videos for most, but there are those who’ll use it to thrill the extended family with slide shows from holidays.

All that aside, there are a couple of media players that we recommend often, the main one being Western Digital’s TV Live, which is a bit of a favourite because of the fact that it’s network enabled, a feature that really shouldn’t be overlooked. It saves you actually moving drives around the house too much, which is always nice. Moreover, it’s one of the nicer looking media players out there, which is fairly important considering the fact that it’ll likely be sitting somewhere fairly visible in your living room. The WDTV Live isn’t actually marked down, because it’s kind of as low as we can push it at €111, but it’s still a solid deal :)

The second one we’d recommend, for a combination of looks and functionality, is Netgear’s Digital Entertainer, which, like the WDTV Live is network enabled, but it’s also built in a form factor that means it looks a lot more like a DVD player or a digital receiver. It’s not a massive thing for most, but there will be those who are happier to keep everything roughly the same size and shape.

As with the WDTV Live, the Netgear will read from a hard drive over USB or a network drive if you point it in that direction. If you’re not into externals then you can also install an internal drive, which will cut down on clutter fairly substantially. The Digital Entertainer is also down by 11% this week to €195, which isn’t too bad.

Anyway, recommendations aside, you can check out our page for our media player sale and see for yourself :) Enjoy!
