Capcom has revealed that it’s working to bring a version of its vastly successful Street Fighter 4 to Apple’s App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Very curious to see how well it controls
Word of the decision to release a portable version of Street Fighter 4 comes via gaming news site IGN, which not only boasts word of the game’s upcoming release, but managed to enquire about characters. For now, it seems that only fan favourites Ryu and Ken have been confirmed, but Capcom has said that we can expect to see other characters in there too; including some of the new introductions from Street Fighter 4.
We’re also pleased to hear that there’s support built in for multiple control schemes, for those who absolutely can’t take having things laid out in the default control scheme. Still, it seems that there could well be some issue with the lack of shoulder buttons available on Apple’s mobile devices. Still, given the fact that the iPhone version (to judge by the screenshot) looks fairly complete as it is, it’s hard to imagine that Capcom hasn’t already got the kinks worked out when it comes to controls.
That said, we’ve yet to see any really capable call and response style gameplay from the iPhone work as well as we’d imagine Street Fighter and its ilk would demand. The fact is that the lack of tactile feedback does add a strange, softer feel to these things, something that anyone who’s played Flashback or Earthworm Jim from the App Store will likely already have encountered.
Still, we’ll be curious to see how this works out.
