Microsoft certainly is laying the ground for the release of Windows Phone 7, with tidbits of info arising each week to keep our interest levels up. Though today’s announcement regarding some of the games that will be available for mobile OS may pique interest levels of possible users to an all time high.
Users of Windows Phone 7 handsets will be able to log in to their Xbox Live account on the device, and play dozens of popular games adapted for the mobile platform. Studios such as Gameloft, Konami Digital Entertainment, Namco Bandai, PopCap and THQ have helped put together a lineup that consists of about 60 titles, including ‘Assassins Creed’, ‘Bejeweled LIVE’, ‘Castlevania’, ‘Frogger’, ‘Guitar Hero 5’, ‘Halo Waypoint’, ‘Splinter Cell Conviction’, two Star Wars titles, ‘Tower Bloxx NY’ and ‘Zombie Attack!’.
A report in The Telegraph tells how Windows Phone 7 handsets will have a dedicated games hub, which will showcase the best games on offer as well as featuring free demos and multiplayer gaming, as well as pulling in a user’s console-based Xbox Live profile, complete with avatar and achievements.
Microsoft’s new mobile operating system will be available on a number of handsets later this year, including touch-screen devices from the likes of HTC and LG. Microsoft has, quite rightly, focused on the advantages of a solid integration between the Windows Phone 7 platform and other Microsoft services, such as Xbox Live.
The Telegraph seems to think that “privately” Microsoft believes this could help to wrest the portable gaming initiative from Apple, though that’s a lot of ground to make up, especially as a great number of titles that will be on the Windows Phone 7 platform have already found homes on iPhones around the world.
Jonathan Leggett, news editor of mobile phone comparison site Top10.com, said that this fact means that, “Microsoft’s chances of competing with Apple’s handset will depend heavily on its ability to port Xbox Live games to the Windows Marketplace, preferably through an Xbox Live app store created specifically for the platform.”
