Apple Set to Launch Cloud-Based iTunes

It’s been rumoured for a while, but now a “reliable Apple source” seems to have confirmed that the company is soon to lunch a cloud version of its iTunes software.

Wanted by its users for quite some time now, the move was first reported by the well respected Boy Genius Report which claims that a source has “filled us in on some of the company’s iTunes plans, and they’re exciting”.

Adding that iTunes will be getting “a huge cloud capability that many people have been asking for” the report in question added that it will be broken down into three groups:

* Streaming music and movies from Apple’s servers to your computers, devices, etc;

* Streaming music and movies from your home computers to your other computers, remote devices, etc;

* Wireless iTunes syncing with devices.

All seem like good additions to us, with the synching supposedly promising to be “seamless”, while with regards to the second ‘remote devices’ point – the iTunes cloud will reportedly “let you be the content distributor to your own computers and devices”. Any purchased content that’s locally on your computer will be able to be streamed using your internet connection out to your devices

Considering there are a good few cloud-based music services out there (Rdio, Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody), Apple’s move is really just a logical step to stay competitive. Now, let’s wait and see if the Boy Genius is correct.
